  1. Brief History: -

 

The RPF Zonal Training Centre, Tiruchchirappalli, Southern Railway is spread over 24 acres and is one of the oldest training centers of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

 

This premier institute was established in 1956 and inaugurated by Shri. O.V.Alagesan, Deputy Minister for Railways and Transport. This center displays a blend of valour and nature's charm as tough military-level training on one side and birds are singing on the other. The Centre is well maintained with tall trees & beautiful gardens and peacocks being regular visitors to the verdant space.

 

"The British administration constructed many bungalows in the early 19th century. Railwayofficials of the colonial era used to stay in these buildings, but after Independence, SouthernRailway took over control of these buildings with great efforts and these bungalows are beingmaintained in very good condition. The Administrative block of this Training Centre is functioning inone of these bungalows. The artistic talent of the force is also on display with statues sculpted byRPF personnel placed at the entrance & in front armory of the institute.So far 83 batches of Constable Recruits including 03 batches of Women Constable recruits and 02 batches of Sub-Inspector cadets have successfully completed their Initial Training.

  1. This institute was established in 1956 and is one of the oldest and prestigious training institute of RPF over Indian Railways.
  2.  Many Bungalows made by the British in the early 19th century are available in the campus in good condition. Administration block of this institution itself functioning in one of these Bungalows.
  3. This is the one institute where more initial training for constable recruits were conducted amongst Indian Railways.
  4. This institute is also having the pride of imparting training to other uniformed armed forces like CISF, Central Excise &Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited.
  5. This institute is having a Model Room for IED displayed with other various types of IED models/switches and samples of various explosives. This model room also housed with old Fire-fighting equipment’s and also all types of Railway materials prone to theft.
  6. This Training Centre is mainly imparting promotional & in- services training to the officers/staff serving in Southern Railway, South Western Railway and ICF. In-service course includes specialised subjects such as Various Laws, Various Acts, Gender Sensitization, Child Rights, Juvenile Justice, RSMS, Basic Computer course, Cybercrime, Use of social media, NDPS, Wilde life protection act, IED awareness, Disaster Management & Fire fighting, Yoga, UAC & Weapon training.

  1. Class rooms equipped with Interactive boards and LCD Projectors.
  2. Mess with a capacity 250 trainees at a time.
  3. Auditorium with a capacity to accommodate 300 trainees.
  4. Library with 1650 books related to Indoor & Outdoor subjects, novels, stories, magazines.
  5. Air-conditioned computer lab.
  6. Play Ground (Foot ball Ground, Volley Ball Ground, Basket Ball Ground & Indoor

Badminton Ground etc.)

  2. Recreation room with TV, Carom board, Chess etc.
  3. Wet Canteen.
  4. IED Model Room.

This institute is having 09 barracks including 02 SOHS with a capacity to accommodate 300 trainees at a time. In a total 92 toilets and 48 bath rooms are available for the use of trainees. The barrack wise capacity is tabulated below: -

  1. Courses Conducted:-

  2. Orientation Course - 8 Weeks

 3. Refresher Course - 04 Weeks

 

Apart from above various capsule courses viz Soft Skills, Ethics, Behavioral Skills, Gender Sensitization, Juvenile Justice, Child Care & Protection, RSMS, Yoga & Meditation, Disaster Management, Fire Fighting & First Aid, Basic Computer Course, HRMS, E-Suvidha , E- Office, Prabal Portal, Crime Against Passengers, Untoward Incidents, Train Escorting, Weapons & Tactic, Cyber Crime, Wildlife Protection, NDPS & RTI Acts are being organized to the RPF Personnel.
